Sorry for the radio silence for past few weeks, but I was here:

It was fun and amazing and I wish could have spent more time. Alas, dear Reader, I just couldn’t keep away from my experiments and you would be lost adrift in a sea of cooking/food blogs. Overwhelmed by beautiful photos of dishes that look too good to be true, blinded by their sheer artistry and ingenuity. So I came back to provide you with an amateurs attempts at making something edible. (Aw yeah, see what I did there?)

Cookies ‘N Cream Ice Cream

After rushing like mad to clear the driveway from another snowfall before it froze, I came inside and had a craving for ice cream. I found a carton of Cookies ‘N Cream, but was sadly disappointed. First off, someone had gouged into the ice cream and eaten all the big chunks of cookies. The resulting cream flavored ice cream just tasted… off. Not creamy. Kind of stale. I even found some slivers of ice within the ice cream. All in all a disappointing evening. To rectify this sad state of affairs I vowed to make my own version. Here’s what I did. Apple Crisp & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Filled with the holiday spirit, I’ve decided to do a double post in one. I know, I know… I’m too generous. The apple crisp and ice cream can be made separately, but I really think you’ve got to have these two together.

It’s -15 degrees outside and I suddenly had the urge to make ice cream. I couldn’t have ice cream alone – it needed a pairing buddy. Since making Peach Cobbler this summer, I thought to try it again. This time, though, I wanted to use a different fruit and make the topping more flavorful. My research led to the apple crisp. Some will say it’s blasphemous that I compare a cobbler to a crisp, but I just want a low key hot fruit dessert. Read the rest of this entry
