Berry Cobbler Cookies

All rejoice for there is a new post!

The other morning I woke up with a craving for berry cobbler. After living in the LA area for over a year, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a donut town. Every shopping plaza or street corner has a mom-and-pop shop announcing that their’s is the best donuts and coffee in town. If I were in the mood for a donut this would be delightful dilemma. Well, dear Reader, I was not. Sadly, as of this posting, I have not found an acceptable cobbler or pie shop in town. (If you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments below. Thanks!) Kaddu Ka Halwa (Pumpkin Pudding)

If after reading this you have a sense of deja vu, that’s because this is basically the Gajar Ka Halwa recipe with pumpkins instead of carrots. Please reference this recipe if you’d like detailed pictures. As you can see from the ingredients below, I was unsuccessful in procuring two sugar pumpkins. I guess if you try to buy whole pumpkins after Halloween, it’s slim pickin’s. Instead, I substituted a butternut squash for the other sugar pumpkin. Any sweet squash will work, as long as you end up with at least 2 cups of fruit and adjust the amount of sugar accordingly. Read the rest of this entry

Crepes with Berry Compote

I woke up Sunday morning gazing out at the backyard. The grass was high enough to create waves  in the wind. I took a large gulp of my remaining lukewarm tea and headed straight for the kitchen. I would need to amply fuel up in order to mow the lawn.

My usual breakfast consists of scrambled egg whites loaded with veggies (a version of them can be found here) and a slice of toast. Eating eggs day in and day out can become hard on a foodie’s psyche.  Read the rest of this entry
