Apple Crisp & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

Filled with the holiday spirit, I’ve decided to do a double post in one. I know, I know… I’m too generous. The apple crisp and ice cream can be made separately, but I really think you’ve got to have these two together.

It’s -15 degrees outside and I suddenly had the urge to make ice cream. I couldn’t have ice cream alone – it needed a pairing buddy. Since making Peach Cobbler this summer, I thought to try it again. This time, though, I wanted to use a different fruit and make the topping more flavorful. My research led to the apple crisp. Bhindi Masala (Okra Curry)

I make a good Bhindi – only to be rivaled by my mean Baingan (coming soon!). I don’t really have any strong feelings towards okra, but there is a fervent vocal minority in my family that absolutely loves this vegetable. So I make it for them when they ask politely.

I think this would be great if made in a karahi/wok because it cooks quickly. The majority of your time will be spent cutting up the okra. If you have the chance try it and let me know how it turns out in the comments. Read the rest of this entry

Beef Macaroni Casserole Using Thanksgiving Leftovers

After making Braised Short Ribs for Thanksgiving, we had a lot of leftovers – a whole rib that hadn’t even been touched. I also saved as much of the braising liquid as I could. By Monday I was tired of reheating the various dishes and decided to make something out of it.
